What's included

The Right Ramp for Your Home and Your Situation.

Every ramp starts with a free home visit — we measure the rise, the run, the landing, and look at what makes sense for your entry. Then we build a flat-rate quote for the option that fits.

  • Aluminum modular ramps — fastest to install, reconfigurable, removable. Most common for residential use
  • Custom wood ramps — built to match your home's architecture. Permits handled, railings included
  • Threshold & portable ramps — for small step-ups at doorways, or travel/vehicle use
  • Permit & inspection handled — 1:12 slope, 36" min width, code-compliant handrails throughout
  • Rental & resale options — short-term rentals for post-surgery recovery; we buy back modular ramps when you're done

My wheelchair, my granddaughter's stroller. Same ramp. Steady Step handled the permit, showed up on time, and it was done in two days. I didn't have to figure any of it out.

Common questions

Questions About Wheelchair Ramps.

If your question isn't here, just ask when we call. We'd rather answer the same question a hundred times than have you guess.

How much does a wheelchair ramp cost?

It depends on the type and the run length. Threshold and portable ramps start around $280 installed. Aluminum modular ramps — the most common residential choice — run $2,400–$4,500 for a typical 20–30 foot run including handrails, landing platform, and permit. Longer runs or second-entry ramps are quoted by the linear foot after the home visit.

Custom wood ramps vary more by scope: framing, decking, railings, and finish. We quote everything flat-rate after we measure — no change orders for things we should have caught at the assessment.

Do I need a permit for a wheelchair ramp?

It depends on your municipality and the type of ramp. Many modular aluminum ramps in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties don't require a permit because they're considered temporary/removable structures. Custom wood ramps built as a permanent structure almost always require one. We check this for you during the home visit, pull the permit if needed, and handle the inspection — it's included in the quote, not an add-on.

Can I rent a ramp instead of buying one?

Yes. Rental makes sense for post-surgery recovery, short-term hospital discharge, or situations where you're unsure how long the ramp will be needed. Monthly rates vary by run length. We can also install a purchased ramp and buy it back from you when it's no longer needed — ask us about the resale program during your home assessment.
